The Microcosms site calls on those in the dominant culture to look at plants in a new and different way – as powerful and agentic beings filled with mystery and beauty, rather than as objects for human use. This is consistent with the goals of The Plant Initiative to increase respect for plants and to advocate on their behalf. Microcosms succeeds in communicating this true nature of plants by touching our deeper essence through its images and words. The site can help to rebuild the partnership of equals needed to help repair the damage that has been done to the planet’s ecosystems and the human spirit by ignoring this reality. When plants and humans can better collaborate as interdependent and respectful partners, this will contribute not only to our mutual survival but also to the long-term wellbeing of all life on Earth.
