Darin fassen sie die Forschungsergebnisse zu den medizinischen, therapeutischen und pharmakologischen Eigenschaften der Pflanze zusammen: antimikrobiell, larvizid, antitumor\u00f6s, antinozizeptiv und entz\u00fcndungshemmend, antioxidativ, leishmanizid, antimalariam\u00e4\u00dfig, cercarizid, trypanozid, gastroprotektiv und antiulzerogen. In einem Abschnitt \u00fcber die traditionelle medizinische Verwendung von <em>Virola <\/em>erw\u00e4hnen die Autoren, dass die Wai\u00e3pi-Indianer von Amap\u00e1 den Dampf der Bl\u00e4tter der Pflanze zur Behandlung von Malaria einatmen. <em>V surinamensis <\/em>wird auch als Insektenschutzmittel, zur Wundheilung und bei &#8222;Entz\u00fcndungen des Verdauungs-, Harn- und Fortpflanzungssystems&#8220; verwendet. Die Samen und die Rinde von <em>V. surinamensis<\/em>, auch bekannt als Ucuuba, werden von verschiedenen ethnischen Gruppen als Halluzinogene in ihren Ritualen verwendet. Die Ucuuba-Samen sind auch f\u00fcr die Kosmetikindustrie von Interesse.
